Design and co-engineering of crewquarters and toilet and hygiene compartments for Starlab
Project duration: ongoing since 2024
Project start: September 2024
Client: Airbus Defence and Space, Bremen, Germany
Consortium: LIQUIFER Space Systems
Task: support Airbus in the architecture and design of the crewquarters and toilet and hygiene compartments through co-engineering
Exploration and micro-gravity research in Low Earth Orbit paired with space tourism
LIQUIFER Space Systems is part of an international consortium working on the development of Starlab: a next-generation commercial space station designed for microgravity research, exploration and space tourism in low Earth orbit (LEO). Within this project, LIQUIFER is supporting Airbus Defence and Space with the architectural design and co-engineering of the crew quarters, toilet, and hygiene compartments. The work focuses on integrating human-centred design principles and ergonomic optimisation to ensure an aesthetically pleasing living environment in a micro-gravity environment. These results will help define the living standards and habitability of future orbital habitats, establishing Starlab as a pioneering platform for long-duration missions and commercial activities in space.
